Medical Assistant Program

Journey Medical Training Center’s Medical Assistant Training Course is a comprehensive 16-week hybrid program designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to become certified medical assistants. This program blends flexible online learning with essential in-person training to give students a well-rounded education. Over the course of 12 weeks, students will participate in online lectures every Monday and Thursday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, followed by lab exercises on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm. The practical, hands-on training allows students to apply the concepts they learn in real-time, preparing them for the fast-paced environment of a healthcare setting.

The program’s final 4 weeks are dedicated to a valuable externship, where students will gain firsthand experience working in a medical facility. Externships run Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, offering students the opportunity to integrate their classroom education with real-world practice. Upon successful completion of the program and externship, graduates will be eligible to sit for the National Healthcare Association’s Medical Assistant Certification Exam.

• Weeks 1-12:
• Mondays and Thursdays (online over Zoom) | 6:15pm-8:45pm

• Wednesdays (In-Person) | 6:30pm-8:30pm: Clinical Lab
• Weeks 13-16:
• Externship (Hours may vary according to facility hours)
• Monday-Friday | 8:00am-4:30pm: Externship at Clinic

Payment plan does not include $75.00 application fee.

There is a 10% interest charge for the payment plan bringing tuition cost to $2,756.93. Final tuition payment must be made no later than the last day of class. (Grades or Certificate of Completion will not be released until all financial obligations have been met.)

Requirements

• Be at least 17 years of age.
• Complete the application and pay the $75.00 non-refundable fee.
• Pass a criminal background check.
• Cannot be listed as unemployable due to a finding of neglect or similar misconduct on the Mississippi Nurse Aide Registry and cannot have been convicted of a criminal offense as listed in Mississippi Code Rule § 16-1-45.16.3.
• Provide evidence of immunization against MMR, Tetanus, and Hepatitis B series, and a negative tuberculosis screen.
• Provide a copy of your Driver's License or other state or federal government-issued photo ID.
• Provide a copy of your Social Security Card
• Provide proof of prior secondary or post-secondary education (high school transcript and/or diploma, GED, or college transcript and/or diploma).
• Provide a current BLS/CPR card (may be taken at Journey Medical Training Center).
• Provide further proof of immunization and pass a urinalysis drug screening if needed for the clinical site.
• Computer access and Internet access (cannot have only phone access).
• Access to Google Classroom, Zoom, and WhatsApp.
• Textbook and Workbook (provided by Journey Medical Training Center).
• Optional $75.00 Lab Kit may be purchased from the school for demonstration of required nurse aide skills.
